A Modern French Cottage in Dallas

One of the greatest parts of our job at Summey Industries is taking trends and adapting them to fit our client. This particular project blended the beautiful and popular grays with the client's unique style of clean French Countryside. Upon purchase of the house, we met with the client, our in-house designer, and our project manager to brainstorm ways to maximize the client's budget to achieve her dreams. {Getting all of those people to work together is key to dreaming big but staying grounded in the reality of what is *actually* possible, so the team mentality of our designer and our managers is a cornerstone of our business}.

We landed upon the following as it pertains to scope of the project: updated the dining space with the same wood flooring in other areas of the home for cohesion, moved the hot water heater to gain usable space, and converted a closet into a cozy dry bar off the dining room.

All cabinets are custom and the countertop is Mother of Pearl Quartzite from Walker Zanger

As we updated the dining space we also gave the kitchen a major overhaul. We completely redid the kitchen as well. We left all appliances and kept their locations the same, but did completely custom cabinets, the mother of pearl quartzite, new LED can lights and we installed a whole new sink and faucet.

All our fixtures are chrome and this is the gorgeous bridge faucet by Kohler.

In addition to the kitchen and dining remodel, we also tackled the master bathroom. Here we did the floors in a marble 2" hexagon, a free standing vanity with a carrara marble top and Kohler Bancroft plumbing fixtures in chrome.

Our client wanted a fresh and clean look in her brand new standing shower, but opted for the visual interest of contrasting tile patterns. While the lower half is brick style, the upper half is hatch application. All the tile is ceramic subway, and a chair rail separates and highlights the contrast. The end effect is interesting and clean: exactly what our client hoped to achieve!

Easy Updates

Often, clients come to us overwhelmed because they think there is too much to be done. Sometimes they are right to assume that much is required in terms of timeline, scope, and materials of a particular project, but on occasion they can make simple changes that change everything in the most grand way.

This Dallas family was lucky like that. They had a master bath that needed a facelift. It was already large and open, so all that was needed was an update in materials and color. They had put off the upgrade until they had a leak, so we went in ready to address both form and function. An insurance claim allowed us to repair the leak and make this space fabulous.

It's not uncommon for one partner to relinquish all styling rights to the other, but these clients both cared and wanted to contribute. Instead of becoming a design obstacle, the two together created the most lovely space with clean modern lines, a beachy palette, and a romantic feel (the chandelier!) We just love how it turned out, and how the space will now be a haven for both him and her!

This bathroom transformation included upgrading from the dated travertine to carrara marble. Incorporating two different sizes of the same tile creates interest and cohesion, and the gray hex tile on the shower floor creates depth. Two brand new vanities with carrara marble tops, on-trend lighting, current hardware (and all new plumbing!) round out the bath.  The clients were able to save money by keeping all of the elements of the bathroom in their original position - and we could not be more pleased with how it turned out!
